i'm trying to understand how some websites rank 1st on google for competitive keywords while there content does not change, they don't seem to have a huge number of links and generally not the best seo stratergy. I know it has been discussed quite a bit but do you think on this website for example mysilver(dot)co . uk age is the major factor in its rankings? im sure i am missing something big with that sort of site as ther are many old domains that do not rank so well with poor conent. there are a a few ive seen like that and i'm trying to learn why (before setting up the website for my bricks and mortar business).
Age is only one component here. They probably have dotted all the "i's" and crossed all the "t's"in relation to the use of SEO on the site. The keywords and title are very relevant.
If you are setting up a new website then I would advice you to buy an old domain and preferably with a PR if you have the budget for it . Will cost a lil more in the beginning but ultimately it will benefit in the long run since the articles get indexed faster and ranked higher and already has a fair deal of domain trust . They dont "seem to have huge number of links" is deceptive measure to track your opponents websites . Its fairly easy to hide link juice profile flow . If I have a site and I dont want to show them where my backlinks and link juice is comming from I will just set up a squidoo and point it to my homepage and then build all links to that squidoo . That way the competitor will only see one link pointing to my site but not know hw much link juice it is actually supplying .
