IMHO you should study how to Optimize On-Page before Off-Page because on page will your foundation in SEO process. as long as you you have unique meta contents, less keyword and good page content. then link building process (off-page) also you should learn how to use SEO Metric Tools or Webmaster tools like google adwords, analytics and other tools for webmaster/SEO.
