How do spam filters know if the email is opt-in?

    There's no way for them to know.

    Usually opt-in mails don't get many "mark as spam" marks by users + there's some trust involved.

    If there's a lot "spam" marks - the server just gets blacklisted + there're some technology things like dkim-signatures.

    And even with all that stuff some white mail goes to junk folders sometimes.

    Just stay away from hosting your email with a web host or ISP that is blacklisted and you should be fine. Stick with reputable hosts like bluehost.com or hostmysite.com
