How do Scholarships sites make money?

There are many scholarship sites out there that let users search for scholarships and let scholarship providers post their scholarship for free, maybe just requiring registration.

My question is how do these type of sites make money? I am sure there is money in other types of financial aid (by promoting student loan affiliate programs) but what are other ways scholarship sites generate revenue?

There's multiple models at work behind the various scholarship search sites, from simple lead captures for future upselling to services offering "help" with filling out scholarship applications and lots more.

18 to 24 year olds seeking higher education is a rich demographic that can be approached from an unlimited number of directions. I wouldn't be surprised if you dug deep into 10 different scholarship search sites and found 10 different revenue models... there's a ton of potential in it for the creative minded.

It's pretty simple. The websites like fastweb run those dumb "would you like to join the Navy?" ads alongside offers for survey companies, loans, online degrees, free stuff, etc. You figure that they get about $1 or more a lead with hundreds of thousands of people searching...that's some serious change for the 2% or so that are dumb enough to ask for information. I actually hate fastweb with a passion because they honestly force you to click no thanks to about 10 ads just to look at a scholarships information. There was actually an article somewhere recently that ratted them out for this and they were doing overtime to convince their members that it wasn't that bad.

It can be a combination. Adsense and ads, but a lot of it is in the lead generation. Colleges pay for leads, usually as much as $16 per someone they can contact. I imagine the loan services or other areas make something like that. You just have to scout the ad sites like CJ.com .

I believe there are a few affiliate programs for colleges. Some colleges pay you for each potential student who requests a brochure through your affiliate link/website.
