hi, why is it that these guys cannot get sued while i find most warez stuff is hosted there.....im sure these guys are making millions
Megaupload is a Hong Kong Company http://www.aboutus.org/Megaupload.com which probably enjoys the lax copyright protection. Rapidshare did get sued before http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/35991/118/
That's why off shore servers are preferred (offshore to usa/uk) . Since legalities are less strict due to developing countries having a relaxed or broken IT law system. Regards
They are in essence "hosting" companies under most laws. If I take the DMCA law for example, if RapidShare gets a complaint about copyrighted material, they have a resonable amount of time to verify and remove the offending material and cannot be sued if they comply. This is what they do and why they will rarely get sued.
yea carpathiahost.com is hosted in Washington Dc - the heart of US capital. I wonder how they still are operating. Plus I ask because I am looking for a host with lax operations.
Ya sometimes its okay if the owner of the legal product report the link sharing on warez pirated sites. rapidshare will probihitedly delete the files without warning. And megaupload too. But it seem that the link on Hongking alive longer cos the law there is quite good. Now rapidshare became the biggest file hosting in the web, i think so . One bad thing on rapidshare is that dont offer the change for user to make money, just make point to earn rapidshare account (just one month)
i dont get it what you meant by user make money. well the thing is this battle will never end. some producers will realize piracy as cost of staying in the business, others, the ones with real power will keep fighting...because they can. then we get into the whole black & white spot issue....
either out of reach of US laws or they follow the DMCA and get the content removed asap, but i would figure their upstreams would have gotten "repeat complaints" about them
I suspect the answer is primarily because the labels don't quite understand the technology (and it is not yet the bogeyman that they see P2P to be). Usenet is in a similar situation ...
