It's true you get what you pay for, but why do people keep picking on the writers in DP? There are a lot of good writers here, selling their work cheap just to get a foot in the door. I've seen both sides ... some really bad copy with high fees and some really good copy with low fees. We shouldn't discount those writers, simply because they are charging low fees. Gawd! For a dollar, it's worth the test. Give a writer a chance to prove themselves. Don't assume it's copy and paste. And to suggest it's "spoiling the market for other writers" is just absurd. Established and good writers eventually build their reputation and private client base. They'll be paid accordingly when they've proven themselves. DP is a good place to start and you do what you have to, to make it, like actors waiting tables for tips.

    Just my 2 cents.

Yeah not all writers will write crap for $1, its just sad to see good writers go that way. Some do it, because its a good way of marketing and edging out competition, and the others because they need the money. Why only DP, even on Elance and GAF, its a virtual blood bath out there. Infact DP is a lot better as not all buyers here look for cheap work. I know because there are times I have asked for higher rates and got it over the others who quoted much lower despite the fact that I'm pretty new around here.

Have you considered the fact that a dollar is worth a lot more in countries outside the west?

I've read this a few times in the forums (with regards to India, for example), but the cost of living in New Delhi and other major centres is comparable or only slightly less than the cost of living in the west. Yes, a dollar is a lot when you have no funds at all. Too many people and not enough jobs is the real reason. In this case a dollar is "worth more."
