How do make Webpage generate better Search Engine Results?

Google the simple word "Microsoft" and you will find that Microsoft's website is on top.

Also, notice that Microsoft's link includes a host of other information (Download Center, Help and Support, Jobs, Windows Home Page, etc.).

How is this done? Does Google look for META tags in the webpage to create this, is this something that Microsoft is paying for, or is it something else?

If it is something else, could someone help explain to me how it is done?

    Regards,
    Joe

If you have a WebmasterCentral account you will be able to tell Google what "sitelinks" you want.
