Hi, I was just wondering if anyone here has tried replacing their regular ad units with link units (or vice-versa), and whether that had a positive or negative impact. Does anyone use both? How does that work out for you? Thanks for any responses.
I resisted the link units for the longest time thinking they would be waste of time and space, because (1) they just seemed stupid to me and (2) they require two clicks to actually see any revenue. Last week on one of my sites I added a wide link unit to all of my pages which previously only had a single 120x600 skyscraper. The day after I put them on my site I rolled out of bed to find that I had already made more than I make on a typical day with that particular site. All-in-all, CTRs more than doubled and revenue tripled. I no longer think that link units are quite so stupid.
Thanks for the response! That was my line of thinking, as well. I figured the first click would come easily, but the second click would rarely come. I guess I'll try adding one and see how I go.
Link Units work great on my website. I have my Link Unit in the left hand corner of my website. My visitors are actually clicking twice, which I thought would be a turn off.
Horizontal link units work especially well: AdSense link units deceitful? Horizontal link units work best You should subscribe to my blog
I've been thinking, if link units work so well, it would be so easy to create my own link units with rotating affiliate text links. Maybe use javascript or cloak them somehow. A little off topic, But I bet it would be a competetive alternative. I've done rotating banners and ads of different types, but nothing with the simplicity of the google ads...maybe I should follow their success and cut out the middleman?
I modified my navigation menu to look just like the link units. Now 80% of my revenue comes from adlinks.
i've also seen an increase in trafic on a site i'm working on. If what you guys say is true, i think i might attribute it to link ads.
So, another question, because I wasn't specific enough before: How do link ads pay? They take the viewer to a page of ads about the keyword they just clicked, right? So does that mean that a lot of the ads on that page might not pay well? I assume the CTR is generally higher, though?
The ads on the links page don't pay any differently than other ads. But there's some natural targeting occurring, because the visitor clicked a very-targeted link to get there in the first place, so likely the ads are of interest to them. So, yes, the CTR can be higher for the second click.....
I found Link Units to be the best change that I ever implemented - they consistantly get 50+% revenue of a month for me - and all my best months seemed to be the months when the link units were getting 60-70% of the monthly revenue. So yes link units are quite good.
Checking out your blog, Eric - thanks for the links ;-) I added Link units to a couple of my sites last month and have been impressed with the results so far. You can see an example here - I have blended them into my sidebar nav at the top left. I felt the same way as you guys originally - it seemed pointless. Apparently not, though!
well at first i did not bothered about adlink.. cause i thought it would simply not make much $$ ... but i see some poeple in webmasterworld has adlink contributing about 30% to 50% of their overall revenue.. so it makes me rethink about.. so recently i tried again... putting it properly ... a horizontal one... above all adsense... and mm.. not too bad actually... i m getting about 10% ctr... and it did not effect my adsense much... but now i m trying to place it below all adsense... cause i reckon that if people dont find my adsense interesting.. then they might click on adlinks.. will try searchbox soon.. but i havent seen much positive comment bout it
I do okay with it. I have it set up as my "site search": http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/search.htm
