How do I...

...find out what search terms have been entered that have triggered my ads so that I can see what the long tail is? I can't see for looking with google analytics so am actually wondering whether I'm indeed looking in the wrong place altogether. Either that or I've had too much coffee this morning!

    Cheers!

Look under the Reports tab in adwords, and run a report.
Though there is a) a time delay and b) you are likely to get "other unique queries" as results.
Use hittail.com as a nice way to winkle out long-tails

A "search query" report to be more specific.

That will tell you which searches are triggering your adverts, however, as madga has said a lot of the time you get stats for searches that google won't disclose. So for example it'll say you got 5 conversions from "other unique queries", which isn't really all that helpful. If you need to get past this use the article below

googles search query report tends to be very vague...

You may want to look into a 3rd party solution such as open tracker or statscounter.

Both are great for extracting broad match search variations
