Hi, I have a website that advertises my apt rentals in Victoria BC and for each listing there is a spot for me to enter the meta title, meta description and meta keywords. I am just not sure what each is for and how to use it properly. This is my site: www.apartmentsRus.ca
Meta tags are used by the search engines to help determine what your website is about. Meta Title - What you type here will show up as the link people will click on when your site appears in the search engine results. Meta Description - This is the text that appears with your link on the search engine results pages. It will describe what your site is about. Make sure to use a good description as this will help get more eyeballs from the search engine pages to click on your link. Meta Keywords - Place keywords that are relevant to your site in this tag so the search engines can get a better understanding of what your site is about. Meta Keywords are not as important as they once were in terms of SEO, you used to be able to just put your keyword all over the page and achieve good search engine rankings, but I still like to include them on my websites. With all your Meta tags you want to use a good mixture of the keywords you are targeting. Search engines use Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions in determining where your site will rank.
