How do I upload a file over SSH?

Need to transfer a jar file to an Apache server. I need to use SSH to upload the file from a window's machine. I use Putty.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

What's the reason for needing a secure connection?

    Anyway, use SCP or SFTP.

Since posting, I downloaded pscp and have figured out how to use it.

    Thanks for the help.

Even though you have PSCP, try WinSCP (more of a GUI). It's really good.

I think a better question is why wouldn't you use a secure connection. Every time you connect using FTP you're sending your login information in plain text...not a very smart bet for security. FTP is not even installed on any of my servers, if done right scp can actually be faster too.

server to server use scp, windows use winscp.

    Yes, I know.

I was asking for his reason, as maybe he has a misunderstanding. I didn't ask for a reason.

And SCP is not a replacement for FTP. SFTP is a replacement for FTP. SCP is a RCP replacement, so of course it's faster.

My reason is because that's what I was told to use. :)

I don't have much experience with Apache servers, and was told to use an SSH client to connect. I needed to do a file transfer and wasn't exactly sure how to do that. Google was my friend that day.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

    No problem.

Also, just for future reference. This isn't really an Apache issue. As you aren't connecting to Apache when you uploaded the file.

SSH you are connecting to the physical server. Which is probably Linux.
