How do i turn my computer into a server?

    i have a computer with very nice specs and a fast internet connection and wish to turn it into a web server, im looking for a tutorial that will help a absolute noob install a web server onto my pc
    i use windows XP btw and i was wondering instead of download all the little files like mysql and php is there a complete package

    Besides the server software,
    you need the fixed ip address to make you computer to be a server.
    A DNS resolution also works ,if you have dynamic xDSL internet access.

    Remember, its only a local server. If you put it online you would most likely get hacked and your computer taken over. You probably have dynamic IP as well, which makes it hard sharing stuff with friends.

    Nice idea. I have 200 Gb Diskspace, 2Gb ram. 4 Ghz CPU cycle speed. The motherboard and 1 Gb video cards supports all the features. Is this enough for a server?

    Those specs aren't the problem, your biggest concern is your Internet connection (reliability/speed).
