How do i trace an IP by email?

    Sorry if it's wrong board,

    i am receiving spam and i just can't ignore it anymore and i want to send an email to the ISP of the IP who sends me those messages.

    how can i do that?

    Check the header of the email. It will usually tell you where it is coming from (the IP and the mail server and etc. info)

    Also,

    when you have found the contact, do send a few emails header as proof.

    i am trying to retrieve the headers and i am using outlook express and without success yet. i can't find this option.

    when email is selected, right click and select properties. or go under File, then properties

    Now, in the details tab you should have all needed info.

    Well, good luck. 99.99% of all spam has spoofed header information. Most comes from botnets and the header information wont get you far.

    My suggestion is to fight spam with good filters. Spamassassin it quite powerful, but can be heavy on the server. There are tons of other filters out there if you look around.

    I just switched over to gmail myself. I've got it setup to to send as if it was from my own domain and unless someone looks deep enough at the message will they know any difference. Importing 6+ years of emails was kind of a pain, but it went fast once I found the proper solution.
