It's just a waste of time is all. Sure, you can submit to the engines and wait a few months while they decide of they want to crawl you or not, or you can get a link or two and be indexed in a few days.

They have submit pages for the noobie webmasters that don't know what they are doing.

No offence but I don't think those submit pages are for noobie webmasters as I work in an internet marketing company and we still submit our homepages + sitemaps to search engines after we did some seo adjustments.

Maybe it's a waste of time , maybe not. But links are indeed very effective and can give a quick index.

Really? I have submitted lots of google and yahoo sitemaps, without exception the pages were spidered no quicker than just letting them be "found". So I skip that step for now as well as using the form.

I kind of agree with Farkas on this one. Submitting your site manually is never a noobie SEO move, it's just that a lot of webmasters don't see the need to since they are usually picked up in a few days anyway.

Well sitemaps are fine too I think that most advanced webmasters just head on over to Google Sitemaps and submit a sitemap..

That way they can monitor when Google indexes the pages too...but submitting manually is never a bad idea, it can help speed the process if you're not about to go get backlinks or anything...

In fact, instead of working to get backlinks, you can make sure that your site will be indexed by Search Engines by submitting it (who knows, maybe they don't like your site or something) and it saves some trouble....
