I have just done an analysis of my site using SeoQuake in FireFox and it would appear that certain words appear more frequently than others and are having an impact on the my keyword density. Are there any tags I can use to make the search engines ignore specific words? Or is the fact that they do not appear in my meta keywords enough to render these words useless from an SEO point of view? Thanks in advance! Your help would be much appreciated
No you can block certain words, unless you can add them as a picture instead of text like for a heading. They will become less important if they are not used in you meta tags but google values the text on the page very highly so you may need to reword you pages or add more of you keywords somehow. You can use google webmaster tools to see what words google sees as the most important on your webpage.
Well thank you very much for those 2 informative comments. I guess I now know the most important SEO secret there is, however, this still does not help my quest to find an answer to my question! I have a commercial business site (PLEASE NOTE - NOT A BLOG) that needs to inform customers of when a business is open to the public, because of this, the times that the business is open feature quite heavily in the % content of the page and I would like to remove these from the SEO mix. Simply writing 'good content' is not an answer as the page already has good content that is specific to the niche and the business itself however, the opening times whilst they need to be on the page are not very search friendly. That is, not many people search for the opening times and so I would like to remove these from the page word density, thus increasing my keyword density. Gurukid22, your post re an image is the best answer so far - thanks. Does anyone have any more suggestions? Please!
Keyword density is a pointless exercise really - search engines do not use this as a key element in determining your rankings. Position on the page may be a more important factor to look at.
