How do I start my own directory?

I run a successful graphic design blog and i was interested in creating sites related to graphic design so i can use my blog to promote them. I was considering starting a design directory where people can add their websites but i have some questions...

I assume i should use a separate domain for this site?

How do directories make money besides google adsense? Featured listings?

Do you know any good directory website software or useful websites for starting a directory?

    Any other tips?

    Thanks!

You don't have to use a separate domain...just make a subdomain directory.mysuccessfulblog.com or even mysuccessfulblog.com/directory

Making money with your directory requires a lot of promotion first...basically featured links, banners, and other advertising stuff

Here is the most popular web directory script : - there is a free and a paid version ($25)

There is no need to make another unknown directory. Stop it.

Take your time and build on quality not quantity. spot test your ideas before running them out big time.

Yes your on it now, slowly read back through all info back in the deep depths, ask questions. The prople here are very clever and have helped me.

Yes build on concrete, stop repair if errors before moving forward again, provide value for money, understand we are in the attention age not the information age, you have a few seconds to grab and hold you customers, use it well.

Wish you well with your project.
