I have 30mb of photos I want to share with some relatives... how can I put them online so that they are displayed with thumbnails and they can preview them? I mean, is there some kind of online photo album service out there?
msn spaces is really easy and will resize photos before uploading them... you get about 30meg space i think.
I use express thumbnail creator to create the images and webspace. Here is a basic example, although I have used this program to generate some design heavy sites also. Who really cares about the personal sites Example
You could at least try to read and understand my needs before jumping in... why would I want to send them an email of 30mb? Wow, I like it! I'll check it out now
free hosting I'd go with Flickr or Yahoo Photos. With Yahoo you can setup password protected photo albums
Shutterfly (shutterfly.com) and Fotki (fotki.com) are two popular ones as well. Both are easy to use and have small free accounts. (Sorry, can't link yet.)
What about putting them on one of your own websites? You'll ultimately have greater control over them.
Yeah, I did that but ended up with just a huge list of jpegs with no thumbnail, so you wouldn't be able to see what the photos were about unless you clicked on each one, that's why I wanted to be able to generate some kind of thumbnail and it seems that the express thumbnail creator program does quite a nice job
If you're using Windows XP, you can download the "Image Resizer" power toy from Microsoft found on THIS PAGE. Among the other great utilities there is the image resizer. When installed, you can select a bunch of image files in any folder on your system and resize them all with a right click of your mouse. Instant thumbnails! The "alt-tab replacement" power toy is also great for webmasters who tend to have a lot of Internet Explorer windows open and use alt-tab to switch between them. This little tool doesn't just give you the default icon (which tells you nothing). It lets you see a preview of the web page that in open in each instance of IE. It makes switching back and forth between windows a breeze.
If you have cpanel with fantastico then I suggest to use "Gallery" They really rock. You can just show it to people you like, upload movies, pics as much as you want. Picasa has improved a lot and now make automatically webpages with thumbs. For both of them thumbs up
Thanks for the tip. I haven't even looked at half of the stuff in Fantastico. Not enough time to install, test, etc.
