Killaklown, where do you host now ? 1024mb ram for $50 a month ?

I run proxies on servint VPS for $50 a month to, and its all managed, I dont do a shit, its cPanel, very convenient.

I don't know. Their plans don't mention CPU, Memory not to mention the real extras, pretty much everywhere offers custom vps.

http://www.vpslink.com are pretty good, no support though. Very good servers though.

I've been using them for two months. I've ran some pretty intensive scripts on them and they hold up ok. If you're looking for a good quality vps that can take a bit of punishment check oout

    http://www.vpslink.com

No normal support though, just emergency. I can say 100% they're good though, and pretty cheap too. Very fast too!

cPanel takes avg. 390MB if I'm not mistaken...

Switch over to DirectAdmin...thats what I'm using now...license is only $6/mo (internal lic provided by datacenter)

So if 10 users are using cPanel at the same time it will need 3900MB?

The OP will have the server version of Ubuntu, 6.06 LTS or 6.10, not a desktop install. As mentioned previously Ubuntu is mostly a more up-to-date version of Debian, given that Debian is *the* server distro, you can't really go wrong.

@OP, why have you purchased an unmanaged server if you don't know how to set it up? Go for something managed or as agnivo007 suggested pay someone with clue to set it up.

Not necessarily...if you get thousands of hits per minute...does that mean GBs of RAM reqd ?

Yeah even more sometimes. It's at least 256mb to even start and it will crash about every 6 hours with just 256mb

Nope they're not. They're the highest PR for cheap VPS, not a bunch of cowboys. Search google for 'Cheap VPS' ;)

Cool glad to hear it :) I think it uses something stupidly low like 20kb, i'm probably wrong though.

I tried to use it and found it far to complex and long winded. I've been using ServerCP today and i'm starting to prefer it to CPanel.

Any reason why its using 100mb memory with no sites added? Or is that the OS?

Where are you getting that read out from? Inside webmin? That could be the os. I don't worry about memory usage as much as I do CPU's, they are displayed like this

    0.12 etc

Thats like a general level of how much of the resources you're using. If thats over 1.0 and you have no websites running there's def. something wrong. Post what it is if its anything over 0.10
