I was wondering if I could have some advice on how to properly rank for keywords.

For an example.... I have a new blog that is about "Hip Hop Music". Should I be trying to rank for that keyword? Or do you rank for your site title as the keyword?

My site name is "Purple Bars".

Other keywords for my site- Music, Rap, Hip Hop News,

well look @Mem700X .... you have your main keyword "Hip Hop Music,Music, Rap, Hip Hop News" etc.... you can rank for the keyword as well as you can also rank for your site title as the keyword. There is no problem in raking with the site title as the keyword ..... :)

What is profitable, People searching for keywords like "Hip Hop Music" or about your site "Purple Bars"?
I think it would be better to rank for keywords that people are searching to find content that you provide.

It is must to have keyword in URL or in title. And in meta tag and not so many times in body but at least 3 times in body. You have hip hop, music, mixtapes, gossip, interviews, features, unsigned artists, new hip hop, new songs, new music as meta keywords you can choose any of the keyword from this with relevance to your website, also with high amount of Google search and low competition. If you are not getting any keyword then do one thing use long tails for less competition.

I would like to remind you that title should be framed with your targeted keyword. So it is better to focus on your targeted keywords and not for your title. Always make your anchor text as your targeted keywords and link back to your main site, for your promotional activities.

You can rank "hip hop music" but I would go a little further I just did a google search and I get:

    hip hop music awards
    hip hop music videos
    hip hop music artists
    hip hop music agents
    hip hop music artists list
    ect ect..

there are many keywords with hip hop music in it be creative with your titles. Make them so people want to click on to it and read. Target long tail keywords (3 words or more) this way it will be a little easier to rank for your keywords.

    Hope this helps.

You don't have to have your keywords in your url.. you can also "brand yourself"..

You can rank for both but it is really hard to rank high for keywords like ''hip hop'' or ''hip hop music''.

    Hi,
You need to get more back links for your keywords. Here are following techniques to get back links :
1.Do blog postings and blog creations on top ranked sites.
2.Bookmark your sites on top sites.

    Good luck !

"Purple Bars" is a brand name. Anyone can rank for his brand name. However, ranking for you brand name can't help your business unless, you are as big as Cococola. You need to rank for those terms what people are searching for.
