well. tell me this. are your keywords competing with the most popular, competent keywords ??
because if your keywords have a lot of competitiion , even if you do all the seo stuff, it will take time for them to appear on the search engines.
try to optimize your keywords which have less competition.
besides this u can try classifields, forum posting, blog commenting and etc etc.

If you want some quick traffic from search engines,try and target low competiting keywords instead of medium or high competetive keywords which take both time and lots of efforts.You can also opt to optimise each page of your site for different low competetive keyword and get better serp for that keyword.This will give you some quick traffic from search engines

This is a good point indeed.Make sure that you are focussing on long-tail keywords if the competition on the general ones is too high.For instance, focus on ranking for: 'healthy horse nutricion' instead of just 'horse' (impossible) or 'horse nutricion'.It ain't the best example but you get the idea.
