    I work in an ad agency. I have been called to a meeting to talk about SEO for this site: http://www.bluecompass.com/ruan.html.

    This site is in Flash. There are no keywords within the site. So how do i get it to rank for choice keywords? Please advice.

    Also, our agency is not hiring outside help to do this just yet, so please do not email me with price quotes and resume's.

    Hopefully you experts can give me some advice.

    Thanks.

    it is very difficult to rank a site well that is pure flash. you should try to insert some type of text on the page. also, make sure your title tags are flawless. work on links as well.

    In order to promote this site to Google, you should do as mberman said and make sure all your tags are flawless. The number one thing that you will need to do is to just heavily build links to the site using your keywords as the anchor text. As long as you build alot of strong, and relevant links, you will pull the site up in the serps even without on page content. So don't worry, just build high quality links.

    Well, I don't know how much control we have over the site, i find out next week. I think i'll be able to influence the tags part, but not sure about text on the page.

    Could you give me some tips to get more anchor texts for a site like this? Ruan is basically a trucking company that transports goods for the likes of Walmart, Target etc. Any tips will be helpful. Thanks.

    Without building an HTML version of the site that the search engines can index easily, the only way you're going to be able to get the Flash site to rank well is to use a brute-force link building campaign that has the keywords you want to target in the anchor text pointing back to your site.

    Bear in mind though this is a very time consuming (and potentially VERY EXPENSIVE) process, meaning the ROI on it compared to other strategies and alternatives will likely be comparatively low compared to what you can get doing something else (like building the site in HTML and CSS).

    You can try out Z-order technique. Which is very similar to the Unobtrusive Javascripting.

    Keep in mind, that some might say that this is black hat, but I do not agree with them. If you are running a pure flash site, and don't want to show any html to end users, this might be the only solution.

    I won't get into the white-hat-black-hat debate as far as your suggestion goes Anghus, but I will say it's a total /FAIL/ at universal accessibility, which will just have the effect of turning away people who may want to use the Web site.

    Can you give me some examples on how to do it? i dont know how to approach link building for such a client. and when you say expensive, what exactly are you talking about? I think that given the client, i can probably get a budget to do some link building.

    thanks.

    Optimize the site the only way flash, iframes and javascript only websites can be optimized:

    Adding textual information and links to all of the pages availables within the corresponding html tag.

    FOR FLASH SITES:
    <noembed>
    optimized textual content here
    </noembed>

    FOR IFRAMES SITES:
    <noframes>
    optimized textual content here
    </noframes>

    FOR JAVASCRIPT SITES:
    <noscript>
    optimized textual content here
    </noscript>

    Search engines can read the content enclosed within the above tags and it is obviously indexed and followed.

    Surfers will not realize of those tags unless the view your site's source ;)

    What's the Web site?

    That's not going to do much if you can't cram the entire site onto one page or link to an HTML version inside the alternate code container.

    And besides, <noembed> is NOT real HTML. It should be embedded as alternate content WITHIN the OBJECT element.

    And don't even get me started on the atrocities that are frame and JavaScript sites either.

    Text in flash can't be read as it is in a digital form and not in a readable form such as HTML.

    An easy way would be to simply add several html pages that target your keywords.

    Google seems to index some flash content but not very much. I would recommend making sitemap if possible or breaking the site into small parts. Having an html version would help too.
