How do I point my website to someone elses domain?

    Maybe a noob question...

If I have a website and someone else owns a domain on a different server, without transferring the domain, how do I make it so when people type in his domain it shows my website? Do I just need to give him my name servers or he gives me his name servers or something? Who's the one that actually logs in and does the work and what exactly do they do?

    Thanks

    Or something involving domain forwarding?

You will need to tell him to do a redirecting from his hosting Control Panel

He needs to redirect his domain to yours, he can either do that from his host cp - such as cpanel - or he can put the below code in his .htaccess file, both will have the same effect.

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
    Code (markup):

Ok but he can't redirect it just to my hosting and keep his same domain name?

Not sure what you are saying. The domain name is his and the hosting is yours. Do you want whenever someone types in his domain name to be redirect to one of your domain .. so aaa.com (his) would go to bbb.com (yours) or you looking to for aaa.com (his) to be displayed on your hosting account.

First one just use a redirect in cpanel or .htacess

For the second one he would have to point his dns to your hosting and you create an cpanel on yours that has his domain. He keeps the domain and your host the files. The only difference is where the DNS for the domain name points.

    Hope that answers your question.
