so from what I gather, your gig is the 'international' pitch? That is what makes you different? Obviously, you'll have to give a little to get a little. You'll need to do the normal marketing stuff to get people there first. For example, write (or hire to write) articles on international trade and use the normal article submission techniques to start building some traffic. Search for sites related to international exchange and see if you cant get some links there - again, you can also hire to have someone do this. Of course get listed in directories under the proper subject (again you can outsource this process). You can do PPC (adwords, etc) and bid on terms like "buy/sell product to other countries" "sell product foreign currency" etc...do the typical keyword research to find related terms. Then ad an incentive for people to actually list there - is your fee cheaper than competitors? Can you throw in somethig else like a deal for first time listers? The steps are 1.) getting people ther, then 2.) getting them to list or buy. Following the above advice should help. meegwell Then the big thing is actually getting people to sign up
sorry I just read your intro on the site and see that you list the benny's there - just make sure these are mentioned in your marketing efforts I mentioned in the last post. meegwell
Change the tagline - "The World's Currency Marketplace" makes it sound like a stock market. Also, if you want people to sign up, make it very obvious on the homepage exactly what they can do on your site, and why you're better than eBay. For a good example, check out http://blogger.com - they have a great little call to action "1,2,3" graphic.
i think you are a bit confused here. the world's online auction marketplace is named ebay. as to how to promote your site, i don't really know. edit : some comments about customs would be welcome. say, if i wanna buy an article from a seller in chile, me living in europe, i'd like to know the ins and outs of customs, i don't want my package to be stopped at the frontier or have to pay some taxes for importing a product from a foreign place. So some info on this would be welcome (by me at least ) also, how come the only product you have for sale right now says : "Seller will NOT ship internationally" ? you should also list some more items to sell, that you own, to give the impression to future visitors that the site is not a real desertplace... making them more likely to sign up, sell, or even buy. that's my advice
...I like the international exchange information tip - information is always good, and peeps can learn the ins and outs of doing biz internationally that would be a good addition - those type of pages can also be made into articles for distribution. ...and you can also create a bunch of user names and buy and sell to yourself
Your competition includes a "multi-million ton beast" and a couple of "multi-thousand ton beasts". You site right now is DEAD! Because you have no traffic or active participants as far as I can see looking at your homepage people are not going to waste their time trying to sell there. So here is the long slow process I would use if I were to get into this type of thing: 1. I would have all my friends and family empty their attics and garages and sell the items they come up with on your site. Cut out your sale or post commission all together to get them to do this. Ask them to have their friends and family help you out and do the same thing. 2. While you have them working to build a perceived membership for you it is time to start getting the traffic to come in. Avoid paid advertising a this stage because people still will be slow to join. 3. Do a ton of local advertising offering to sell peoples junk online for them. Visit near bye rummage sales and offer to sell whatever they can't get rid of during their sale online for them, etc., etc. Anyway there are some ideas for you. The problem you are facing is for people to sell things on your site you need to show them that people come to your site. Without people joining your site you will not get people to come to it. Get it? Good luck and have patience because I see this taking a ton of time to get going for you but if you keep with it then it just might pan out for you.
My suggestion is simple, Getting an affiliate program together like eBay has and allowing it to be mass marketed. It would of course depend on your budget.
