How Do I Market My Site for Free?

    You are starting a webmasters forum and you're asking how to promote a website...?

    My favorite idea for something like that is to go to all the major forums and start a thread that says "Have you guys seen site.com?" How do they afford to give away all this great stuff. I love it

    Or something slightly more clever and sneaky


    edit: you straight stole all the categories from digitalpoint...

    It seems that if you are getting traffic then most of them are returning visitors. This is because they already know about your site and probably like using it. Now you are not getting many new visitors because they don't know about it and will not if you have no links or advertising on other sites. This obviously means that you need to increase your sites exposure on the web by getting it out there.

    Do SEO, Article marketing, PR's, link exchanges, etc.

    You could follow this little plan:

    Join some yahoo groups and start posting useful advice. Then after you have at least 10 posts in each, message the groups offering a solution to 10 biggest questions (or whatever is the most ongoing). Then when people go to get their ebook, have a squeeze page capturing their email. In the ebook plug the forum as a great place for webmasters to hang out.

    Remember that unless you have some sort of personality in all of this, you'll most likely fail. IT HAS TO BE UNIQUE.

    You can then use the emails you collected to send great teaser info and link to the forums.
