I have basic skills in photoshop and other design programs. I want to know how to make frames around the site like on this site: http://www.netdreams.co.uk/ What kind of tools, plugins, brushes.. really, I need a guide on how to do this - anyone?
You have basic skills and you want to know how to do create some lovely graphics! as Clint Eastwood said "a man's gotta know his own limitations". However, you need to break the borders down into seperate graphics. Create a gradient base, use some grunge and splash brushes on seperate layers with various opacities, create straight lines and mask off areas you don't require ie the chevron and mask again to create the distressed feel. Use some cropped type plus some flourishes via paths, brush pen and preferably with a digipen. Very nice look to those backgrounds, good luck in trying to recreate.
I see a lot of talent hidden behind that website. Of course, tastes differ but I should say that is a lovely style. And your instructions, Poxicator, are quite as complex as the design to be recreated, like it
dont need plugins .. just require photoshop brushes , the colours you use have to blend well though thats important and choose the right brush http://www.netdreams.co.uk/images/main-bg.png
i dont really know what brush he used any way here is something that should give you a idea . 1.Suppose this is your layout bg 2.have the blue are on diffrent layer and fill it with gradient or single colour whatevr u prefer . http://i15.tinypic.com/4igeqg4.jpg 3.ctrl select the blue are, and create an new layer above the gradient filled area, and start using brush ( i used some grunge brushes) 4.on a new layer, select the area as selected in the image and fill it with pattern http://i16.tinypic.com/2egbgpy.jpg this is how it will look after filling the are with pattern 5. 6. now duplicate it and pust on the right side and thats it i know it doesnt look exactly like the image u showed but its almost similar method used as far as i know , hope this helps i made this quick, didnt go in much dept,i hope you have basic idea's of photoshop tools ,gudluk
nicely illustrated asterix, great example of tearing an image apart, really like the look of that website and I see they have some big clients.
