I agree with Joe@AdPatron, in this cases probably the Press Release will not help you. Even for SEO don't have that power, will help just in your diversity links that's it.

I know people always advise to do press release, From experience, dont touch PRweb. I was expecting tremendous results, and nothing. Did not get a single client (and the product was dirt cheap), and did not see any jump in traffic.

I think its great if you can give out review copies to people on forums, DP has a place where you can sell software and DP ranks very highly in the SE.

If it is a script based software (php) there are plenty of marketplaces where you can list it. like "hotscripts". That will get relevant and targeted traffic to your site.
I also think an affiliate program will be critical to your success, as you then end up with dozens of others doing the marketing work for you.

You can start doing adwords campaigns, but I would not do this until you have a few genuine reviews from different people on different forums. Lets say I find your product, and I have clicked on your ads, costing you real $$$, and I then google for your product, if I dont find reviews, I might not buy. If I find reviews on DP, or other forums from long term members, then I am more likely to buy.
    Just my 2cents

You need to start promoting it in all way, and will understand yourself from where profits are coming. SO use facebook ads, adwords, email marketing, place adds, post on forums, etc. So use both, free and paid traffic. Or you can just go step by step and see what is working better for you. So try everything one by one. For example use facebook ads, and invest some money to test, and see your ROI, if it-s ok for you go ahead and increase the budget!

    Hi Vivek,

I think you can offer gifts or vouchers to your customers to increase your website traffic.

@JamesGordon7 I sure can put up offers. But that would be when I get a few customers. Right now, I am looking for ways to get the ball rolling and to broadcast the message about existence of such a product.

If you have created software product it's a marketing rule to publish press-release. The thing to consider is where to publish it. Lots of press-release submitting services have got overspammed and their links bring more harm than promotion.
PRKing is an example - it used to be good a year ago, but for now their game's generally over.
PRWEb is a good place today. Have no idea how long will they last.
Still, the best thing is to send software-related press-releases directly to software-related media, and work with their journalists/editors personally.

hello vivek nanda, I experienced that forum marketing, email marketing & affiliate marketing are the best tactics to launch a new software or product. Try to search giants of your niche, contact them, ask them for reviews, give free copy & ask that sale your product to his email subscribers & take commission.

Rest marketing strategies you know bro :)

Tail-f, which just got bought by Cisco for $175 million, seemed to think press releases were a good idea:
