    hi.

I've just decided to start a new site that is text content based instead of media based.

I thought about fantasy and romantic fiction OR maybe on music since I am interested in those. but kh7 replied in one of my posts saying that fictions don't usually pay much.

so how do I figure out what kind of content pays more so I can choose from those?

Here's a list of high paying Adsense keywords.

    http://www.cwire.org/2006/03/23/updated-highest-paying-adsense-keywords/

You probably won't find fantasy and romantic fiction among them.

The real trick to creating and maintaing a sustainable site is a combination of reasonably good keywords that aren't necessarily the highest paying, or even close to the top, and one's passions. According to the link above, "mesothelioma lawyers" is the highest paying keyword, but how often, and how long, can you keep writing about mesothelioma lawyers before you get tired and give up?

Now while it's true that fantasy/romance fiction may not pay very well, it IS a niche, and a potentially valuable one. Put enough interesting content there and you'll get visitors who will keep coming back and spread word of mouth about your site. Your traffic will grow and because you like the subject, you have no problems continually adding content and upgrading the site.

The biggest pitfall of Adsense noobs, as I've found, is that they come into this looking to make money and nothing else. 9 times out of 10 they will run out of patience when their mesothelioma lawyers blog doesn't make them the millions they were expecting in the first week or the first month and go do something else.

Unless you want to dive into black hat SEO and start producing 1000s of spam sites a day from a software, patience and passion really counts for something in sustaining a profitable Adsense site.

You read only the part where I said that it won't pay well. You ignored the part where I said that if it's your passion, go for it. There is a huge market for fantasy websites. I have no idea whether many websites are covering that yet, but the amount of people interested in that sort of thing isn't small. You can make a hundred bucks by getting one click on a $100,- ad, or 100 clicks on a 1cent ad. So make a good website on something you are passionate about and keep at it. It won't pay your bills this year. Next year it may pay for hosting - but while you are doing it, you will enjoy it. And if you keep it up, in the third year it may well be your vacation-money.

For most people this isn't a get rich quickly business anyhow. My website is 7 years old and now I have the kind of visitor-numbers where adsense (which didn't even exist 7 years ago) pays my bills (I live cheap). Most of that time I just built the website because I'm passionate about my subject (spirituality). I like gathering information and I like sharing it. I like writing about the various subjects as well and so it just works. It pays bills now because the website is huge now. It has thousands of pages, a lot of trusted links and has had growing visitor-numbers for years. It takes time and energy to build something like that. I built it when I felt like it, really more like a hobby, so it didn't feel like a lot of work. But in the end it is starting to pay off.

Just make a good, interesting website on something YOU care about and think about how to make money from it when you have a thousand visitors a day (or more).
A Dutch comedian once said that he really didn't know humor very well - he just knew what HE thought was funny and worked on that. Content-creation of any type is like that: focus on what works for you. Chances are, it will work for others as well. And if you don't have a clear sense of what works for you, you certainly won't be able to judge what works for others either.

If you want security: find a normal job...

Never go fo the highest paying words simply because they pay high because, there is no certainty they will remain high paying; secondly, it would probably mean you were attracted by the possibilty of high value clicks. This would definately not be the way.

Also, I would suggest you get your own domain for a site rather than runninga site on an account provided by your internet service provider.
