Hello I want to know signs to tell if my site has dropped PR, it shows up as page rank 2, www.fit-box.com, however on google results, the words "fit box" and "fitbox" are two different things, I posted this problem before, I think they have some how penazlied me, Yahoo and MSN show fit box as my site #1??? ????
I don't think you've been penalised. I think the difference is just that there are lots more results for the search term "fit box" than fitbox and with your current level of optimisation/ backlinks etc. you are top of the heap for fitbox but not "fit box". Looking on google.co.uk for fitbox, there are only 166,000 results and your site is #1. This isn't a competitive term, i.e. there aren't many other sites in the ranking for the term so hitting #1 is quite easy. Looking for "fit box" though there are 58,000,000 results and you aren't #1. This is quite a competitive term and will need a fair bit of work to get the #1 spot.
Do not confuse Page Rank and Search Engine Ranking. They are two completely different things. Your PR2 refers to the quality of your backlinks. If your PR drops it does not mean your search engine rankings immediately drop too. The same goes for if your PR increases. To rank for 'fit box' you will need many more quality backlinks with 'fit box' as the link anchor text. It is much easier to get rankings on MSN & Yahoo. Google is the pickiest of the 3 big search engines. They care more about link quality and trust issues. I do think you have been penalized for that particular phrase. Most likely you did not vary your link anchor text enough. You probably have a whole bunch of links that just say 'fit box'. This is known as an overoptimization penalty that occurs when you do not vary your link anchor text enough. The logic behind this is that if links are naturally developed, they would use many different link anchor texts. If they use mostly the exact same anchor text, it looks spammy. I recommend you try to balance your link anchor text out more. Get a bunch of links that use different anchor text. Keep in mind that this search term gets very few monthly searches. You would be better off concentrating on words like 'boxing equipment' or 'boxing gloves'.
Vansterdam above has nailed it. "Fitbox" and "fit-box" are two entirely different things to Google. If you have done nothing naughty, then you will not have been penalized. If you use Firefox, you can see your PR straight away as it is in the top bar. PR is an inexact science in any event. It, and ranking must not be confused with each other as Vansterdam says. I have few pages above a PR3/4 yet rate top of Google for many, many phrases of my choosing and many associated organic ones too.
i agree pr rank and your position rank are totally different, i dont bother with pr rank as much as i did in the past, ive seen pr 7 sites rank alot lower than pr rank 1.. lol
fit box and fitbox are not competitive terms. you should be able to easily get the #1 spot for both of them. the number of search results has nothing to do with the amount of people that search the terms. you're ranked 73 on google right now for "fit box". most likely if you get some back links for "fit box" you'll be #1 on the next update. if you've done it already then you're gonna be #1. fit box doesn't get searched at all, so my advice to you is to get some links with anchor text "boxing gloves" and "punching bags". change your header title to punching bags instead of "punch bags". "punching bags" gets searched approximately 8,019 times a month on google. "boxing gloves" gets searched approximately 7570 a month.
As I can see, you are not penalized by any search engines. PR have no relationship with search engine ranking. Fitbox and fit-box are not the same, you may be ranking on the other keyword 'coz its relevant to your site, and you may not also rank, 'coz it's not related or not well-optimize for your site.
I don't see that your website has been panelized. Check this out. http://www.google.com/search?q=info...avclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3GGGL_enIN285IN285 http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/advsearch?p=http://www.fit-box.com/&bwm=i&bwmo=d&bwmf=u http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=site:www.fit-box.com&FORM=QBRE You need to be careful about your onpage and offpage seo, you will soon enough get your desired rankings.
Why is Google treating them different. I have contacted them twenty times and no response. I am sure they have bots and algorithms to know that we are the official supplier of the brand. Our trade customers sites are ranking higher than us for our own products and they call them "fit box punch bag from trade-site.com" ?
I do agree that it is quite helpful to know about the minor differences of words that can affect the Page Rank of my site. Thanks for the informative postings…
Why is a site like ukboxingstore.co.uk ranked at number 1 for boxing and fit-box.com is not even close?
