How do I know if I'm SEO-Friendly?

    Hi all,

Kicking around a directory for the past week or so, playing with .tpls and smarty code (phpld... I bow down to an0n...) and now, as I near completion I wonder, how do I know that this is readily crawlable?

I'd rather not post my url just yet (design is still unfinished, and I'm not accepting submissions), but if anyone would pm me I'd love for a SEO-minded critique.

    Thanks.

Your index page should full of text content and density of your keyword is good.

Where is that came from? :p

He's asking if how he will know his website is crawlable or not. You might have missed that. :p

Well, he could mean that he is about to remove disallow from his robots so that the site can be crawled, and before doing so he is wanting to check if it is "crawl ready" so he ensures he doesn't get caught with his pants down by the spiders ;)

Send me the URL and I'll take a look

    1. grab a coin.
    2. flip said coin.
    3. while in the air, call heads or tails.
    4. if whichever side you called turns up, then you win!!! You are SEO Friendly. otherwise I am sorry to say, you are not SEO Friendly.

Here's what I consider to be a "search-engine friendly" directory:

Is the page that my link will reside on INDEXED and CACHED in Google. If not, I could care less.

Wow did anyone actually answer the question? Seems like no one knows.

flagday, the criteria for being an SEO Friendly directory is as follows:
    - you cannot block indexation of your directory or it's listing categories/links by search engines in the robots.txt or meta tags.
    - outbound links must point directly to the listed site. They cannot use the rel=nofollow attribute or indirect jumplinks or internal redirects.
    - outbound links should use a keyword/keyphrase in the anchor and not just a URL. This is usually done via the Site Title but can also be done as body text in the Site Description

This criteria is important as it accurately identifies those directories whose links will count (both PR and ranking) in the search engines.

Being search-engine friendly is slightly different. That is the method by which directory owners use apache's mod_rewrite module to rewrite dynamic URLs into static URLs. They may also improve their general on-page optimisation to increase their indexation.

Some of that might have gone over your head... If you'd like more information please PM me and I will be happy to explain any of it in further detail or more basic language.

you know its seo-friendly when your urls look something like this:

    http://www.yourdirectory.com/category/subcategory/

    rather than

    http://www.yourdirectory.com/index.php?catid=21&bla

check your url :) if it is something like asd.php?r=4&f=6&ake=8 then you are not seo friendly :)

I would add a couple things to silencer's very good list.

Limit the number of links on the page to 20-30
Keeps your lists related, don't get sloppy on adding links to the directory. be sure they are in the right topic or don't add them.

Perhaps this is preferance, but I like longer descriptions. I like the ratio of non-link text words to be much higher than link text words.
