How do I know if I'm in a lousy niche, w/o violationg TOS?

Pretty new to adsense, here, and this is my question:

How do I know if my niche is suited to Adsense? (If it's not I'll replace the adsense with affiliate links)

Without violating Adsense TOS how can I get an idea of what a "normal, average" click pays out, versus what I'm getting paid on my site about raising children?
