I have a business idea and I want to enact it, but when I put it on the net for sale how do I keep it from being stolen and mass produced by someone else?

Hm, well all you can do is start first and get the advantage, you can't copyright an idea.

You can patent a process, the application of an idea, so you can try that, if the idea is worth so much, consult a patent lawyer. If it's something that can't be patented you need to just jump in and make yours the "reference" for that idea/niche/whatever it is, kind of like youtube is still king though there are hundreds of video sites now

I think that's what patents are for. However, if you are talking about that "make $500 in one day", you probably can't.

if you are serious about your product. you will hire a lawyer and will get a patent for your brand name.

Before you go to market make sure you are ready, if you try and launch a business and it fails or only grows slowly due to being poorly thought out then someone else can come along take the idea and launch a better version or with a bigger Marketing budget. The biggest problem is probably where you launch a product or service with only small drip feed investment into promotion and someone comes and does the same but spends more so customer find out about their version first.
If you have a unique product or process though get a patent if its an idea or a collection of existing processes and products done in a new way then you can't. From what you say it sounds like it may be a product? If so does it have a unique element to it?
    Good Luck with it

I was hoping a cheaper idea than a lawyer. D:

@00dacousin That makes sense, and yes it is a product. It's similar to an existing product with a twist, and it's something that isn't commonly marketed (I say commonly cause I haven't seen it.)

Don't share it. LOL but seriously, protect your work. The idea itself can't really be protected, but the end product can. Best of luck with your idea!

If you want to talk the idea over first with someone else, make sure you get them to sign a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement.)

You can find out more about non disclosure agreements here...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-disclosure_agreement

You will find a few NDA drafts and templates starting on this page...

I hope this helps you out.

I think there is one simple solution to it and that is that you should get a patent for your product in this way you can easily use it without the risk of getting it steal.

It is almost impossible to do that. If I were you, I'll probably just keep it to myself and do not expose it to anyone before I start it as a business.

Alright, thanks for a ton of replies I'm doing all the research sent here and such. I just want to do this little business but I'm afraid someone might take it and make it a big business, ya know? Someone with a ton of money. :/ Which I am not haha. I'm hoping to make success out of it before someone can steal the idea from under me, so I'm trying to learn with "dummy business" ya know? Small ones that aren't terribly unique but can get some cash if I learn to monetize it and such.
