How do I install PHP?

I loaded up the PHP website and lo and behold there is a labyrinth of instructions on how to download PHP, configue web servers and manipulate command lines in the files before it will work.

I just want to download whatever I need so I can get started on learning PHP, but I can't make head or tail of the site - does anyone know where I can find some simple installation instructions?

I highly recommend XAMPP.
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html

It comes with Apache/PHP/MySQL and everything you need. And it's dead simple to install.

 

SSH into your box and from the command line do: (you must have yum installed)
yum install php
