How Do I Install New Modules?

I am trying to do this:

    http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/01/27/1813223

My host did not install the proxy_module and when I asked them to do it they wanted to charge me $70/hr.

I downloaded Apache 1.3 from the Apache site and I see the module I want in the modules folder. Do I simply put the in the modules folder on my server or do I need to do something else to install them. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Unless you have the permissions on your server to install a module, you will need your host to do it.

Depending on the OS running on your machine will also determine how you install it. If you have access and the permissions to install it do a search on Google for: how to install Lighttpd Gentoo

You should either remove Gentoo, or replace it with your OS if it is different.

I've got my own VPS and I've already got Lighthttpd installed. I just need to know how to install new Apache modules. I've Googled but couldn't find anything.
