How Do I Increase my PageRank?

Discussion in 'Google' started by Ascendancy, Oct 21, 2009.

I've had a blog up for almost a year now with well over 2500 backlinks and many popular posts that are indexed in Google and Yahoo!, but I still have a PR 0. I have checked my PR on a few different sites and it always comes back as 0 and I have no idea how to increase it!

I've been doing a lot of backlink creation, social bookmarking submission and posting links onto forum discussions, but are there other things I should be doing to increase my PageRank? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes all of my content is 100% unique, it's on my web 2.0 blog http://www.insidethewebb.com/. It's full of interviews from popular figures on the web and it's all content I've created.

You're mixing up Google PageRank and SERPs. While PageRank has a slight effect on your rankings in the search results it's just one of the many factors in the ranking algo and certainly not the most important one. You can rank well for your terms with low page rank. So don't give advice if you're not sure what you're talking about.

    @ Ascendancy

The only way to increase your PageRank is by getting dofollow links from high PageRank webpages. But since you're going to build links as part of your SEO efforts PageRank will come along anyway. Moreover it looks like Google is going to ditch PageRank as part of its algorithm. So you can forget about it and just focus on developing your blog (which looks pretty nice by the way).

Oh wow I wasn't even aware Google was losing PR, but that's great news for me. It may explain why the blog is still at PR0 then, if they aren't focusing on it anymore.

Ascendancy, Google is not ditching PageRank...

Google has gotten rid of PageRank in Webmaster Tools. PageRank will continue to appear on the Google toolbar and be used as part of the algorithm.

You need highly authoritative do-follow links to both increase your PageRank and your position in the serps.

Read PageRank made Simple and then Read about building links and you should be fine.

I thought I had been building links but I think I've been doing it wrong. I'll do some research and see if I can't get me up to at least a 1 or 2

One of the important factors that affect page rank is the number of back links that you are getting. In order to get more back links, engaging on the techniques like forum posting, classified ads, press release, link exchange, social bookmarking, etc.

What is your average number of visitors per day? I suggest not to waste your time on PR, as long as you have keywords that rank high on search results. You don't have to worry. :)

Its not the quantity of backlinks that push PR but quality. A single PR5 backlink is better than thousands of PR0 backlinks. Get as many PR5+ backlinks relevant to your site as possible and you'll notice a change.

Google is not even updating PR.
It's been several months since last update and not sure they will ever update PR.
    So focus on something else.

Really, the reason could be that google has not updated the PR yet. Wait for a while.

I am starting to believe this is the reason because I have well over 1,500 backlinks from high PR sites (some PR8) and still mine is 0. Has anybody heard any news of Google updating the PageRank anytime soon?
