I've read about gathering email addresses from your visitors to send out a newsletter....
Is there free software that allows you to do this?
Or is it like a contact form, where they only enter their email address?
New to all this, thanks for your help.

    http://www.AWeber.com

Not free, but $20 a month is hardly expensive.

I think EmailAces and GetResponse may have free trials?

Well I get my e-mail addresses for my list by having a sign up form on my site and my blog, and when people enter their info (first name and e-mail for me), it gets put into my Getresponse autoresponder, which automatically sends them my newsletter.

As far as a method for gathering e-mail addresses, most of my list was built from advertising a splash page offering free books and information for signing up for my list. And by the way, most of the advertisement that goes for that page is on traffic exchanges.

aweber is good. getresponse is also a good one.

as mentioned, offering a freebie up front is always good. The best method is to offer an email course in say, five to seven parts. They sign up for the free course and you send them lots of helpful hints in a pleasant format.

At the end of the course you upsell your own ebook or a very good affiliate ebook that you recommend. You then get a greater and greater list and you sell your own and other people's reports and even ads on your newsletter.

"The money is in the list" is one of those cliche's that's just too true.
