I got a new digital camcorder/camera and the videos are showing up on my PC as AVI - I assume that is some type of a file name? But when i try to open them on my PV I get that there is an error and when I click web help I go to Microsoft's update page and after checking there several times my PC does not need any updates - what next? The book that came with the cam is of no help and I bought it from ebay. It seems like a good cam. I even used someone else very good cam and the same thing happened, so it has to be my computer/hardware??? Microsoft said to chose custom if I did not need any updates. Custom did show me a list of like 5 options. But which one do I chose? Help me Please!!!
You Need Two Things a file Player and a Codec! First Make sure you check for updates or update to Windows Media Player 11. Download FFDShow for All your most used Codecs from www.Free-Codecs.com (I Did not provide links because some idiots tend think ANY Helpful link is spam and Lowered my Rep Points! So Sorry ) I Really Hope This Reply Helps!!
Your "ebay camera" probably records movies using some crazy boutique codec. I've bought a few throw away cameras on eBay that use "in-house" codecs, which are practically impossible to find on the net. 1. Do what Clickbank Pirate said, try installing FFDShow. 2. Try installing VLC or MPC as your player. 3. Post on the AfterDawn.com forums.
Install K-lite codec pack as it has all the codecs and there won't be any problem playing any video in future ! And VLC player is best nowadays. - Digital -
