I'm new with online marketing and I do like some help to get more traffic to my website, but I don't want use google PPC. I was thinking in rent a targeted email list. Is this a good idea? Thanks
SEO, banners, forum promotion, promoting by yourself . They cost less, however they take you more time .
They are all scams! You can use Article marketing, squidoo lens', hubpages, directory submissions... they can all be done for free

Articles, forums, and blogging are all great ways to get targetted traffic. For articles and blogging, you will want to do some keyword research to make it most effective.

Get as many backlinks as possible for your website and use the right keywords as your anchor text. You should be able to get lots of traffic from the search engine if you do that. Getting a press release for your website is a good strategy too. Try it.
Honestly - since you are new and probably don't know a lot about writing copy or making persuasive offers - well, you'll lose money on rented lists. Think long-term. If you don't you'll do desperate dumb things and lose a lot of money. Built a list. Send good emails. Entertain people - then sell stuff to them. Build A LIST! Everything else online is B-School marketing to list-building. List-building is A-School. Study persuasive marketing. Study what persuades you. Imitate the good stuff. Read books on copywriting, persuasion, & by all means, for godsakes - "Think and Grow Rich" Specific methods - among the best are press releases, comments on blogs, and forum comment marketing. All build backlinks to your website URL - which you own, right? Start with those. If you can't write good content - learn how. There is no try. Just do it or don't do it.

Yes they are total rubbish i paid $12 a year for one and after a few days i realised they all went into the spam folder with the same email name so none of them stood out.
I use myspace, youtube, forums, and yahoo groups as my primary drivers. My website is extremely niche based so it's best to find those who are interested in what I report on.
The best targetted traffic is via ppc, then SEO, then probably articles/links from relevant sites. You shouldn't really go down the email route, unless you build your own list. Otherwise its just spam which is normally really untargetted. Best thing invest your time in writing some nice articles with good backlinks to your site, that way you get some traffic plus SEO benefits.
Using email blasts is absolutely worthless, I would suggest you work on organically growing traffic by finding relevant sites and getting backlinks. With these you can begin targeting various keywords that you will naturally get traffic to through Google.
