I think the decrease in revenue is due to some company targeting my sites with 100% unrelated ads. Why would they waste money like that? Probably my competitors? How do I disable the ads? I filter them and some new company shows up. WTF??
I see your point, they would be nice if they'd pay 10 bucks per 1000, but these people only pay 25 cents for a thousand. Nice for a big forum but not so nice when you have a targeted website with medium numbers in impressions. I had very annoying shoe ads, I blocked them and they are gone now. I saw a big jewelry one... I always check if the sites are any good first.
Wouldn't Google take your average eCPM and only show CPM ads that are higher than that? Also as fsmedia mentioned, how can you tell the difference between regular and CPM ads?
The text ads are CPM ads. I hate those fvcking ads, they want to ruin my income. I am going to sign up for adwords and do the same to them!!!
So when you're using all textads, do they appear at all then? I'm just not understanding what you mean. I get a lot of clicks/day and I get a lot of profit from each click. Those aren't eCPM ads, so which ones are?
I don't see what good it would do... Google displays ads based on what is most profitable taking into consideration earnings for impressions versus other ads that have a price per click and what they get for clickthroughs etc. There are too many factors involved in the display pricing for me to ever filter ads based on what I suspected as earnings. Things change all the time. The ad you ban today could be worth 3x as much tomorrow. I think it is a bad idea, myself.
The problem is they're all irrelevant ads. I ban the 1st and the next irrelevant ad shows up. Why are these people wasting money targeting my site with totally irrelevant ads anyway? Maybe my competitors bidding 25 cents CPM? Not only that, Google gets a cut so I am left with maybe 18 cents CPM...
I also noticed a drop in earnings with CPM ads showing on my site. While my CPM ads were somewhat on topic they still were not the ones I wanted there in the "hot spots" getting the clicks. Since I only had two ads on these pages I placed a third ad, a large square ad, low on the pages below the main "hot spots". Once I did this the CPM ad moved down there and the other PPC ads returned up in the hotspots. My earnings went right back to where they were.
It must be possible. I run a few small AdWords campaigns, and a few times when I've tried to target sites running AdSense, I've been told something like This site does not allow this method blah blah blah So it's possible, but how you do it, I have no idea...
You may talk about this with AdSense support, like some have done. But probably -as always by the current testing, etc.- they will be improving the CPM method, still quite new.
