you need to integrate the adsense ads tightly with your content.. the more written content you site has the better... then you can integrate the adsense blocks within your written content and people's eyes will fall onto the ads after they are done reading your sites content and then click them if it is something they are interested in...
Put them in good spots and try to integrate them into your site. Don't ask people to click them though

I blend in my ads pretty well. I also place my heads where their eyes will surely follow (within the articles).
