I am the only one advertising for the keyword I want to be on top instead of to the right like when i search for other keywords

to add to it your ad should have good CTR rate along with good CPC.Try to have keywords like Free ,Register and Do not include the Cost
So the most profitable ads for Google, the high CPC x high CTR ones go to an even better location to become even more profitable for Google... Can't blame them...
I'll certainly agree with the first part of this statement, but I have some reservations about the second. I haven't bothered to run through the AdWord Help pages, but I'm almost certain that the word "Free" is very much frowned upon by Google. Moreover, the inference that you should be running what could be called a "blind ad" is most unlikely to give you a good CTR, never mind an acceptable ROI. Designing an ad to simply "make the phone ring" may result in a flood of calls, but the odds of getting you a qualified lead are decidedly slender. A successful AdWord not only encourages clicks. It also takes people to a landing page that gives them exactly what they're expecting and therefore looking for. They're just ain't no easy answers to the question of how to get your ads to show above the SERPs. At the very least, you not only have to be good. You also have to be better! Duncan
The word "Free" is fine with G. Used in conjunction with a solid offer (free xyz if you do abc) it's a great lure. duncan made a great point though - don't over emphasize the word free if you want the user to buy something. Mention it, just don't make it the focal point of your ad.
I would set up a number of adds and see which has the best CTR. This will give you an idea what your clients wants
"* Ads go to the top when they have met an additional performance standard, which focuses on the relevance of the ads to our users. * This is measured by CTR. So ads/keywords with a particularly high CTR are the ones that go to the top. This also means that CTR is weighted more heavily than CPC in the algo for 'promotion'." I just wonder what "good CTR" means to them. I could manage to get about 6.5%. What do you think of that figure?
My average over the last 6 weeks on some pretty popular terms is 8.5% to 14% with a couple at 33% and 50%. Since 1st Feb the average is still about the same.
im new to this, but if keeping a good conversion rate is required, then surely having the price will mean only real customers click for instance im selling the pebble phone on my topphonedeals.co.uk site my price is the best for UK customers is this me missing something?
