When I created my website (aussie-pythons.com) I did a lot of SEO on it, it was my first SEO project and I got 5th and 6th for my main keyword, but I can't seem to get above that. The link-building side of it wasn't the best either, and I don't have the time to keep updating with new content. The traffic was on a steady rise for a couple of months but it has seemed to plateau at 400-600 uniques per month. I just added a forum to the site and obviously need a lot more traffic to get members to it. So how can I get more traffic without spending a fortune? And how can I get my site from 5th and 6th to 1st and 2nd? Thanks.
A powerful method in getting audience. Write a good article based on your niche topic and submit it in article directories.
Keyword research then add more related content. Target other keywords besides the main one/s and especially long tail ones to capture new and highly relevant traffic. Try adding some videos to keep your users coming back, and/or engage your audience (let them submit their pics, videos...etc - they are more likely to keep on coming back this way). Link building. Never stop. It might only take 1 or 2 more links for your site to rank higher. Once you rank higher you should get more traffic. Social bookmarking and social networks. You can try exchanging links with other related sites/blogs (this is not about SEO, but more about getting relevant traffic from other sites).
What i suggest is to stop going after the main niche keywords such as "affiliate marketing" which gets about 60-70K searches a month, and instead focus on longer keywords (about 3-4 e.g. "how to become an affiliate"), why you say, well lets see there is so much competition for a word such as "affiliate marketing" and obviously that keyword will be dominated by just few handful of super affiliates mainly because they are so skilled at what they do that you can be certain it will be divided up like a monarchy, a few at the top of the pyramid none in the middle and everyone else at the bottom, which means you dont get a chance to get your fair share in the niche. BUT if you look for a keyword that gets about 700-1000 searches a month w/very low competition GO FOR IT, and do this for multiple keywords, focus on about 10-12 low competition keywords and just build on that by posting on forums while including those specific keywords in your posts...etc and you should know what to do from there, hope this helps, and if it doesn't please don't discriminate against me.
You can use several ways to get more traffic.the best ways are: 1,press release 2,article submission 3,start a blog 4,form posting and blog comments. 5,social bookmarking websites. Just keep doing these ones,i think you will get more traffic soon.
I suggest you cut the forum. 400-600 uniques/month are definitely not enough to sustain any kind of discussion + you'll loose focus! (maintaining a forum is most likely not worth your time) First do what the guy before me said, you can also outsource social bookmarking etc. to some people in this forum.
Bookmarking and forum marketing works best for me. I've tried article marketing and never get any traffic even if I've submitted about 50 to ezinearticles
Get a base of comparison by looking up the amount of back links and marketing done by your competition.
You can capture those unique visitors into a newsletter and then bring them back when you have something new going on on your site. That way you build an audience over time and can even promote affiliate offers over and over again.
Setting up a Facebook Fan Page wouldn't hurt. My number one method for traffic is article marketing...it has never failed me and I've been doing it for over 3 years now.
I suggest you post some attractive articles, nice images and useful tips on your site, which is useful for promotion. Besides, you also need to create some backlinks.
A few of my favorite ways to get traffic are article marketing, press releases, and web 2.0 marketing. They are classic methods that still work well.
Well you're getting a small number of uniques but it's enough to pay for the site itself . Depending on how tough the competition is you might have to deal whit websites the have a assload of SEO done so your SEO might be abysmal compared whit them . My suggestion is to go to war and take down your smaller competitors . When you get to page 2-3 you'll have enough money to further invest but when it comes to page one you're pretty much on your own .
If building a freeway doesn't work then try rebuilding your site. Or alterantively have multiple sites/portals.
Here, Go to the site below for one way to build traffic. http://www.budurl.com/freevisitorsnow This method has worked for me better than I thought It would. You should give it a try.
Use different but related anchor texts in your backlinks coming from different sites. It will boost your ranking.
400 uniques a month is not bad, you could encourage more content by paying people to contribute in the forums
I go look for JV partners in the same niche with high rankings and page visitors and ask if they want to place a banner or link on each other page. By doing this not only do you get extra visitors plus your rankings will climb. EXAMPLE: My site did not even rank but now it's #1 page Google out of 500,00,000 and gets 3,000 visitors per day. But you JV partner must be ranked well and have big page views.
