How do I get into the "blue" sponsored links area?

    Hi everyone,
I just moved to a new city about a month ago and started up a webdesign business. Since I was new to the area, I needed to find a way to quickly promote my business in my local area - thus I turned to PPC/Google Adwords. During the first 3 days that I advertised for my local sector, I was #1 and was receiving about 6 clients per 4 days. So, it was working great.

However, something happened and Google placed my ad on the right side of the page and not in the "blue sponsored links" ad area where I was experiencing phenomenal CTR. Now, two weeks later, I got 0 clicks even though I am on the top of the right side ads.

So, how do I get back into the "blue" area of the adwords placement? I do remember I fiddled with my bid amount and lowered it a bit. Do I need to increase the bid amounts?

Thanks for any tips on this!

Did other bidders replace you? Or are no bidders on the top? The top 2 ads defeinitely get the highest CTR (and, in my experience the highest conversion rates as well). They don't appear on top for every single term though, I don't know the logic behind it, but I think the top bidder needs to maintain a very high CTR to get there.

If increasing your bid doesn't do it, then I'm not sure what will.

    Hi lorien,
There are no other advertisers up in the "blue" area. We are all on the right hand side and my link is the top one.

I will try increasing my bid. If that fails, I'll have to try and write better copy.

Google has to believe that your site is an "authority" site. It must have very high CTR. (And I'm sure you have to bid kind of high too. Google wants their money)...:D

"authority" has nothing to do with it. I think its a function of CTR and bid. Possibly conversion rate (??)

Authority as in high CTR and a review of ad/site.

The blue ads on the left are often refered to as hyper-relevant. For competitive keywords, it can be tough to bid your way over there...it has a lot to do with the quality score. My guess (and what I've heard) is that as the quality component becomes more of a factor in the listings, AdWords could even take the ad copy and landing page into consideration (CTR is great, but they're always trying to make the user experience better). They're only going to place something on the left side if they think it will provide the user with exactly what they're looking for.

For one keyword phrase my ad gets into that blue area. There are no other ads for that keyword/phrase. For that perticular keyword I have zero CTR, no clicks so far. But user entered query matches the words/text in my ad very well.

So in my personal opinon, the relevance of ad text also matters.

I have heard that they manually review website/ads in the blue box (not sure). You need a good ctr and landing page.
