How do I get Google to reference new site

    Hello everyone.

I am building a new site for a family member's business. His old site used to get thousands of hits. For a short period (three weeks) it expired. I then transferred the domain name to another hosting service (1&1.co.uk). I have put up a temporary holding page and placed descriptive meta tags, title and other things in the head which will remain in the full site. Much of the text in this temp page will remain in the home page too.

When I do a direct search for the business name or even the web address itself Google only finds the now none existent pages of the old site that used to abide with the old host (Web-mania).

My obvious question is: How do I get Google to reference the new site and disregard the old deleted pages that used to be hosted on another server?

I'm guessing that it is only a matter of time before Google reference the new site and thus deletes the old records, would that be correct? Howver, looking in 'Google Webmaster Tools' it seems to indicate that the site has been crawled only hours ago! Is there anything I should do or could do to move things along?

Thank you for taking the time to read this thread, I appreciate and look forward to any advice forwarded. I know mostly simple HTML and CSS so go easy on me :)

    God bless.
    In Christ Jesus, Karl

Don't forget that you can also submit your site to somewhere like gumtree (or other classified ads sites) as a way of getting picked up quickly by Google and other search engines.

Join Google Webmaster Tools and submit a sitemap. Then get some backlinks for Google to follow.

add the site to your signature link here at DP, it gets crawled so often it will quickly detect your new website and may index it more quickly. Also open a Google Webmaster account and upload a sitemap to your new site

When you say 'backlinks' do you simply mean put some links on your site to other sites? Is that back linking?

    Thanks

    As the others say:
    1) Bring the site online
    2) Regenerate and re-submit your sitemap to google / yahoo / bing
    3) get backlinks
