I think Agent000 is referring to a competitive edge, something that will really give an added bonus to people who come and post on your forum. DP has set many great examples, for example, take the trophy points and LIKE system, you are actually rewarded for participation with capabilities that the members of the community dim as valuable. Virtual currency is another way to go, simply think of something that keeps your forum visitors engaged, or earning their way to something they want. If you don't give value, that other forums don't, it will be hard to convince people to come back, so try to make their stay there valuable in comparison with the competition, as there are other forums.
