I have detailed instructions on how to obtain trademark protection on my webiste at:

    How to Register a Trademark

Also, I strongly recommend that you get the winner (or anyone else who submits a logo you want to use) to sign over their intellectual property rights to you. This will need to be done in writing. You want to make sure you own the copyrights. This will prevent them from selling the same or similar logo to anyone else.

If you need help with a form agreement let me know. I can put something together and then post it to my website for others to use as well.

    Good luck!

    Dan-

Yes. Trademarks are only valid in the country where they are registered. In the US you must first use a trademark in commerce before you can file. In other countries the rule is generally that you can register first before use.

I would say that most companies just get trademarks in the country where they are located. Only very large companies that operate internationally worry about obtaining trademarks elsewhere.

    Thanks

Here is a quick link to some detailed help: http://www.uspto.gov/web/trademarks/workflow/start.htm

I've registered a trademark, so PM me if you have questions. It's a pretty straight forward process. If you do it alone, you will find a bunch of odd requests which you have to comply. Not to mention there is a cost involved. I think it's around $250 to $500 (depends on some things)

    No problem LB.

Sanjen- sorry not to respond sooner regarding the agreement. I had LASIK surgery last week and have fallen way behind in work and I am away teaching a patent bar review course this week. I haven't forgetten this and will get it to you ASAP.
