    Yes the main point is to understand CSS.

    The best way of doing it is to use the Firefox extension called Web Developer.

    This has all sorts of functions that will help you understand CSS better, then you'll be in a better position to edit a template.

    Well if u already have a coded template then it should have a CSS attached to it. Otherwise, you'll need to get it coded, or attach a pre-made CSS to it. However both these things, can be eliminated by changing coding and images in the template that you already have in ur Joomla.

    To understand joomla template, you can learn from compassdesigns.net, they have good joomla template tutorial
