If I'd allow every individual to comment on my blog with some back-links to their own blogs or sites...won't that harm the stature of my blog in the eyes of the search engines?

Reading what the other guys said, yes you should know a minimum of certain things if your blog is SEO related. Recently i was mentioning how theres no end of "money making blogs" but id bet that 90% dont make money. Something that can bring visitors back to a website is knowing that the owner/writer knows their stuff, the visitor wants to feel confidence from you that you can teach and give out tips, i know when i get that feeling from a website owner i keep returning to their site, they have something that im after and i keep on going back to them.
