How do I climb from 9th to 1st?

    Hi all,

I'm new here, quite new at SEO, and fairly new at having a website

I managed to get my site to P9 on google for my key word, but I need it to rank higher.

What is the best way forward now:
    More backlinks?
    Better SEO?
    More site visits?
    Something else?

    Thanks
    Tom

You probably just need good one-way backlinks and you will make it up there. You can do some blogs and social bookmarking to move up.

Just continue doing what you do, you are on your way. Some suggestions:
    - Keep building quality content, keep getting quality inbound links.
    - Try to get keyword density of your main keyword a bit higher.
    - Use nofollow links for affiliate programs, about page, contact page. Keep as much PR juice within your site as possible.

I agree that you probably just need more backlinks.

I disagree with the comment about increasing your keyword density. In my opinion that is not something you need to worry about. Other ranking factors trump smaller things like keyword density.

One trick that I like to do is to examine the backlinks of all of the websites ranking above you. You can often find some backlinks you can copy or at least some link building strategies you can try.

Competitor Analysis is what you need. Study and research where does your competitor get their links or what they do for them to be on the top position. Site visit doesn't affect your SERP. :D

Also I just want to say that one of the most important decisions in ranking high is with a good name that has key words in it from the start that decribe your business. If people would think about the name of there website as being key words that would help.

Well all things the same, you need to do more of what you did to get on page 9. However there are many factors involved, including the age of the site, the quality/quantity of the backlinks, what anchor text was used, how big your site is, whether you have utilized LSI, the competing number of sites, and so on.

Hope this helps... but in general, make sure you do proper on-page, then ramp up the backlinks with your anchor text.

Whats really sad is when you see a sight that is 7 years old that ranks on the third page when you know it could be on the first real easy.I think age is still the most important though.

There is no way anybody can sit back and tell you what you need right now, and I don’t get how they are doing it?

We know nothing about your site! Your site could have tons of back links and is built poorly. It could be built great but has no back links… It could have perfect SEO but be a known link seller/buyer… We just don’t know!

Tell us your website URL and target keywords and we can check it out to see what need improvement, other than that, people are just making wild guesses!

That will be the best way. Constantly build one-way back links on a daily base.

Try to get links from your competitors or from websites that are connected to your competitors.
