How do I choose a keyword for my website?

    Hello,

I launched my first blog just like a week ago. I decide to write aboutwhat I am passionate about. I didn't think about seo, keywords etc. However, it turns out that I probably made a mistake not doing so as I hardly tend to get any traffic.

I know my blog is new, but even after reading so much information about keywords, I didn't quite comprehend the process in its entirety. So I'd like to ask if someone could exhaustively walk me through what I should do:
    - how to pick the keyword (I'd like to focus on a keyword with low competition so that I can get on the first page).
    - how to use the keyword in terms of content (what keyword denisty?) and backlinks (shall it be the anchor text?) in order to get good results.

Thank you for your help in advance!

You launched a Blog about what? I would suggest you to pick up a niche which you have interest in. Go on google adwords too and write your keyword niche there, you will find a lot of related keywords, try to pick up some . Be sure that this KW have more than 800-1k local exact searches or more as those are the most easy to rank up, anything beetween 1-5k is ok.
After you find your keywords go on google search and type those KW to check the first 3-4 sites and analyze the competition, usually I help myself using market samurai as I can see domain age , PR , backlinks etc. If the competition is duable then go for it, if it's too hard then go for another KW and repeat the same process.

Keyword density stay under 5% , personally I stay on 2% with quality unique content. About backlinks use anchors but be sure to put on a lot of diversity, use main KW , secondary KW, click here/here , raw url etc. Hope it helps. Good luck :)

No GOD_Mode is right. Just check your keywords related to your blog first, you will definitely get traffic on your blog by adding your selected keywords from the adwords keyword tool.
    Thanks

The Keyword Tool of Google AdWords is a good tool to help you decide which keyword you should choose. You can see the related keywords, their competition and search volume.

Then optimize the keyword in your article. Add keyword in the title, mata description, etc.

hi. You will post the blogs based on your personal activities or your opinion on some general discussions. So you could not care about the usage of keywords in the blog content. You are excited to use the related keyword with low competition means first analyze the keyword competition in the google adwords and use low competition with high search keywords. Then use that keyword with complete sentence to give your blog a title and stuff the keyword in the blog content with the keyword density not more than 4%.

The fact that your want to pick keywords with low competition is great most people make the mistake of going for keywords with high searches whereas your much better targeting smaller niche keywords. A good starting point when picking keywords is ask yourself and your friends etc what you/they would search for I find this specific information, these will make far better keywords, keyword tools like google adwords tool are great but they do have a tendency to point you in the direction of where they will make the most money.

When I create a new blog I always do a search with the Google Keyword Tool. I find it's good to be signed into my Google account to get more options and better results. I then choose low competition keywords with over 10,000 hits a month and write a post based on that keyword.

Alright my man to pick a keyword you want to use Google Keyword Tool as everyone has said, but be wary with this tool it shows results for ppc advertising and can sometimes be a bit misleading when it comes to SEO. What I like to do is first find a keyword int he tool that has over 5,000 searches a month, but has less than 1 million results in Google search. You will find the search results in the keyword tool, but then you need to take that keyword and plug it into the search bar in Google and see how many competing pages show in the results if it is less than 1 million you are golden for that keyword, but before you go for that keyword take a look at the top 10 pages that come up in the results study these pages look at their usage of the keyword in content and in meta title and description. After you do a study make a judgement call can you beat those pages with your post or page your are trying to rank for that keyword.

How to use that keyword in terms of content is simple. First get it in the title of your post or page and in the meta description. make sure to have the keyword in an h1 tag and an h2 tag. To really start ranking for this keyword use it contextually throughout out the body of the text linking it to other content on your site that is related to that keyword and then contextually link back to that post from the page you link to from the post to give that keyword a bit more link power. Also make sure to use the keyword in the first and last sentences of your content.

This is a very short explanation of what should be done to rank for a particular keyword if you need more guidance just click the link in my signature and discover some simple internet marketing methods that I think can really be of benefit to you.

    Hope this helped

Think about what words/phrases people would type in to find your blog. As far as using the keywords, make it look natural. Backlinks - switch it up, vary the way you use it in each backlink. Use your keyword 1-5 times out of every 100 words in your blog post. Good luck! :) P.s. look for keywords with less than 100,000 or so competing websites. Type the keyword in quotes in google, and look at how many websites there are. Good luck :)

Using the Google Keyword tool mentioned in the previous section, review each of the main keywords which match your business or products - focus on the more popular words where a lot of people are searching (ie the tip about sorting by Average Search Volume).
