That's a very vague question, but I'll explain it better. I'm talking about the text that appears under websites on the SEs, I'm not sure what it's called, or if it has a specific name (it must, I just don't know it). Anyway, the descriptive text that my site has with Google is horrible! My site is MrAirsoft.com, and here is the descriptive text under the link on Google for my keyphrase "cheap airsoft guns": All of the airsoft guns sold on MrAirsoft.com come with orange tips. It is illegal and dangerous to remove or alter the orange tip. To purchase any products ... Now, that's not what I want. How do I change it? I know in the past meta description was used, but of course Google doesn't do that anymore. I know you can't choose EXACTLY what you want the descriptive text to be, but what are some tips that will get me a better one. By the way, I'm #3 (although my friend says #4) for that keyphrase (cheap airsoft guns), so you can check it out yourself and give me some tips. Thank you!
Actually Google *does* sometimes use the meta description. I notice that your front page does not have a meta description, perhaps you should add one. As for why Google is choosing to display that particular text from your site; I can only guess that this is because that particular paragraph is in bold. Mark
This is sometimes referred to as the snippet. Google will sometimes use the Meta Description tag, but often uses a snippet of text from your content as you've noticed. If you don't like that snippet, try including that phrase in other sentences that are more user friendly.
Google uses the meta description tag 8/10 of the time and the OPD tag the other 1/10 of the time. If you don't have a description tag or Google feels the content is more relevant, then parts of the content is displayed, different lines separated by ... HTH
I also wish for them to not use my meta description. Do I do this just by removing the meta description tag entirely?
I'm confused, why would you want Google not to use your description? A good well-written description can tempt searchers to click on your site. As for removing the description; Yeah, just delete the tag. Mark
Thanks for the info. It's because they are all the same. (I know, its awful!!!) It's probs best I just add the feature for custom meta descriptions to my CMS. lol. Lazyness I guess. I have custom tags so... yes... damn my lazyness! lol
Alright I'll tell my guy to add meta description, maybe that will have some effect. And yeah, the bold might have something to do with it... I'll have to think of an efficient way around this.
google not just sometimes use the meta description, you should put the keyword " cheap airsoft guns " under meta description in order to rank well on that keyword unless your domain name is something like www.cheap-airsoft-guns.net ect... this kind of domain already seo itself. it contain " cheap airsoft guns " already. anyway. I suggest you should put the keyword either on title or on description in order to rank well on google.

I really didn't do anything that special, I just worked hard and was consistent. I still am consistent. Now I'm #4 for just "airsoft guns", and that's bringing in the sales!
